In march 2014, famous on-air personality Akas Baba of Wazobia fm Port Harcourt got abducted by hoodlums at a time when kidnapping was the oder of the day in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
In a quest to show concern about the situation, music icon and self acclaimed first son of the city of Port Harcourt mobilized his fans and other musicians in the region to carryout a solidarity march to condemn the ugly incident and as well demand for his release. But things went wrong when Duncan Mighty and his crowd marched their way to the broadcast station’s office and demanded to be given time on air to express their plight.
The management of the station who saw this as a medium intended by the group to gain cheap publicity for themselves denied them access to go air via the 94.1 frequency.
This resulted to a fracas between the radio station’s management and the Duncan Mighty led solidarity group, which made the station decided never to air Duncan Mighty’s songs or that of his associates on any of their frequencies.
This decision had existed so far until Friday the 2nd day of February 2018, during the morning show anchored by the same Akas Baba, where a new song which features Duncan Mighty, owned by Double J, was played on the 94.1 frequency.
Some are of the opinion that the song was played because its not originally owned by Duncan Mighty, but on the other hand, one would want to argue that time has really gone by, and since we’re all humans, its only normal for Wazobia FM to lift the ban off Duncan Mighty, or what do you think>>> Please leave your comments in the comments session…
