Rangers FC Robbed Of N4m

Officials of Enugu Rangers were on Friday robbed of the sum of N4m on their way from a bank by yet-to-be-identified men.

Our correspondent learnt that the money was for the club’s expenses for their first and second leg CAF Confederation Cup clash with Zesco United of Zambia.

The Flying Antelopes will host the first leg at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday before they travel for the second leg in Zambia next week.

Spokesman for the club, Foster Chime, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent that the money was for the payment of the officials, who will be in charge of the first leg in Enugu.

“Some officials of the accounts department of the club were robbed of N4m on Friday morning at gun point. They had gone to the bank to withdraw the cash and were taking it to the club’s office located on Abakaliki Road in GRA before the robbers struck,” he said.

“The money is actually for the running around and the payment of the officials who will take part in the first leg of the third round of the Confederation Cup on Sunday. But this development will not affect the match in anyway.

“We have reported the matter to the Police and they have begun their investigations into it. It is really a sad development.”

League champions, Rangers, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, have endured a torrid season which saw them crash out of the CAF Champions League and also under pressure to qualify for the group stage of the Confederation Cup at the expense of Zesco.
