Senator Joshua Dariye Defects To APC

Joshua Chibi Dariye, an ex-governor of Plateau State in Nigeria has moved from PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).‎ His defection letter was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his reason for leaving the PDP is as a result of excessive division in the national leadership of the party.

He represents Plateau Central senatorial district and has served as the Governor of State in 1999 and got re-elected in 2003 for another four year term on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, but was impeached in November 2006 and his deputy, Michael Botmang was automatically sworn in as governor, but this didn’t last long as on March 10, 2007, a Court of Appeal ordered Dariye’s reinstatment as governor.

The Plateau State Government appeal to the Supreme Court aout Dariye’s reinstatement; the Supreme Court refused the appeal of the State Government and ordered the reinstatement of Dariye with immediate effect, which saw his tenure through to 29 May 2007.
